The Conservatives do not listen to people - The Conservatives pushed forward the Guided Bus project in the face of more than 2500 objections, and in the face of a petition with more than 3500 signatures. - The Conservatives have refused Liberal Democrat demands to open Council committees the public and the press. - Far from devolving spending power to local communities the Conservatives have cut local spending, for example on minor road works. The Conservatives do not provide efficient well managed services - The recent Audit Commission Corporate Assessment gave Cambridgeshire an overall score of only 2 (described as 'at only minimum requirements - adequate performance'). Of the 18 County Councils so far assessed, ten did better than Cambridgeshire, and none did worse. This is a dismal performance. - For much of 2007 the County Council has been without a Chief Executive and/or a permanently appointed Leader. - The Conservatives have adopted a structure of Departments, Committees and Cabinet posts which is chaotic and unintelligible. The Conservatives do not provide good care for the elderly and disabled - For the sixth year running Cambridgeshire's performance in Adult Social Care Services has been awarded in 2007 only one star (out of a possible three) by the Commission for Social Care Inspection. This corresponds to an Adequate, not Good or Excellent, performance. - This rating puts Cambridgeshire among the bottom 33 (out of 150) councils, ie in the bottom quarter. No Council did worse than Cambridgeshire. This is, for the sixth year running, a dismal performance. - Yet a recent survey by MRUK research showed that Cambridgeshire people rank Support for Older People as the most important single responsibility of the County Council. The Conservatives have no coherent transport strategy - The Conservatives have proved incapable of producing a transport strategy for the County which they can present to the public, and around which they can unite. - Indicative of Conservative incompetence in transport is that their Cabinet Member for transport, in presenting the current Local Transport Plan to Council for approval, said that he had not read it. - The Conservatives have shown indifference to the effects of traffic on communities by rejecting Liberal Democrat demands to review speed limits with a view to their reduction. The Conservatives have failed to regenerate of the north the County - The Conservatives have failed either to research the causes of, or to produce plans to address, the relatively low levels of educational attainment and employment in the north of the County. - After ten years of Conservative administration, the gap between the prosperous south and struggling north of the County is as great as ever. - The Conservative's 2006-2021 Long Term Transport Strategy focused entirely upon congestion, and thus upon the south of the County. It ignored the scope for transport improvements to promote the regeneration of the north of the County. The Conservatives have failed to tackle climate change - The Conservatives do not measure the CO2 emissions from County Council operations, and have repeatedly rejected Liberal Democrat demands to do so. - The Conservatives have no strategy for CO2 reduction in the Cambridgeshire as a whole, and have repeatedly rejected Liberal Democrat demands to produce such a strategy. - Despite Liberal Democrat demands to do so, the Conservatives have proposed no incentives for the use of low emission vehicles in either the Guided Bus project, or the Congestion Charge proposal.
